Hi everybody, I just wanted to introduce myself. I’m very new to motorized bicycles, I’ve never had one. Until now. I just picked up a 1948 whizzer, in what seems to be very good condition. I took a few minutes to go over the bike. It has good compression, and I just solved a spark problem. I’m working on cleaning the gas tank and getting proper fuel flow. I mostly I work on vintage motorcycles. I’m gonna need a lot of help with the Whizzer. Just to show you how little I know about this bike, my first question is, when I try to start this thing do I have to mix the gas with oil, and if so what’s the ratio?
And, is there any place I might source a shop manual or an owners manual? None of my usual places have one. Great appreciation for any help y’all provide to me along the way. I’m afraid I’m gonna need a lot of handholding.

Go ahead and post some pics of the Whizzer here in the forums.

I don't own a Whizzer, but to the best of my knowledge, all Whizzers are four strokers, not 2 stroke machines that mix oil and gas.

Haven’t cleaned the bike up yet. But this is what I got

Welcome to the forum! I for one would love to see some pictures of that thing. I do believe @Wrench is gonna be your greatest help, he's highly knowledgeable on Whizzers.

She sure is pretty. That looks like a 4 stroke engine, if it's a 2 stroke it's a very strange one. Check for a drain plug for oil, or an oil filler cap or plug. Obviously if it has either it is a 4 stroke.
The whizzer is a flathead four stroke engine. He doesn't need to mix oil into the gas unless he wants to mix in some Marvel's

4 stroke 138cc side valve engine

Use 20/50 classic car motor oil with Zinc
Zinc will protect the cam and lifters from premature wear

Should use leaded gas, and that's not available anymore in pump gas
LL100 low lead 100 octane is available at a small airport or use a lead substitute with premium gas

Ya might want to switch the points to an electronic ignition module - get the one with 2 wires + & - e bay

Look on line e bay for manuals

I found this in the forums regarding points and spark plug gap for an H model…Points Gap .012" - .015" S/P Gap .023" - .025". I think the engine I have is a J model, are the specs the same? I need to find a shop manual.
