New Schwinn Build

Bike Running!

Had a little chance to finally get the bike running today. As I was trying to tune in the carb, the H lever controls vibrated right off the bike! lol. Tomorrow I order some nice controls and get rid of that crap! I don't know about original H lever controls, but I don't recommend the repop ones as they are garbage! Here is a link to a short YouTube video.. Tuning will have to wait for another day. I'm going to have to pick up a gallon of Loctite!
I'm still waiting to hear something on my other motor Quenton is rebuilding. My other project is in limbo till then.

Hi lillback44,

Motor sounds good. Be sure to vary the speed a lot during the break-in process with your new controls. I get a lot of calls looking for various parts to the "H" controls as they often shake apart [blue Loctite can avoid such issues LOL], and most often everyone is looking for the little "T" spacers.

For sure get lots of blue Loctite, and put some on every bolt & nut. Still waiting on the crankshaft from Dave Reese in Ohio to complete your motor.

Did I mention how good your bike looks? Just in case I didn't "your bike is outstanding!"

Have fun,

Thanks for saying so Quenton! Means alot coming from you. I kind of surpassed what I thought I could do. Wait till you see the next one! I probably won't spend a lot of time posting much on this build as no one really seemed interested enough to give any feedback. You may have noticed I shortened the brackets on the tank to lower it, and with the painting and decals it doesn't look as awful as when I first showed it to you.lol I know some people probably don't really like the tank, but I think it gives the bike a unique look that's not likely to be copied. lol
I ordered the new twist throttle control and compression controller today, along with some new cables. The levers I will use on the new build for now.
Quenton, I'm not in a big hurry for the motor, I just want to move ahead with the powder coating and such and don't want to get caught short. I am excited to get it though! Thanks for all your help and let me know when you know anything. Thanks,
Chris

New Controls

I picked up a set of controls from Memory Lane this week and got them on the bike. Glad to be rid of those levers, but will probably use them on my other build (for now). Throttle was pretty easy to attach cable and get working, buy haven't been able to get the compression lever quite right yet.
Went for a short ride today and realized I have a few adjustments to make. I'm having a problem trying to get the carb dialed in and think there could be a problem. The engine seems mostly non responsive to the throttle (doesn't throttle up). Having not driven one of these H-motor bikes before, I don't really have anything to go by. Motor does start easily.
Here's a few pics of the bike with the new controls on a nice sunny day. Leaving the chain guard off till I get everything right. I've gotten tired of taking things off and putting them back on! Got some loctite! Couldn't believe the response I got while I was out today! Seemed like everyone wanted to stop and ask about the bike. The response was phenomenal!

Hi,

The control lever for the compression release is the wrong type. The one you needed doesn't have the trigger, but the same as the throttle control. Problem is the compression release cover ISN'T spring loaded. The spring loaded version was used on all the "300" motors and later. All you need to do is to change to the later compression release cover.

Got a call from Dave and your crankshaft is on the way.

Have fun,
