well i put in my motor and went for a spin and now know first hand the need for front brakes. after a few hot laps, my wee little coaster brake was smoking. i have seen some classy drum brakes on derringer cycles, anyone know where you can get them or any thing similar? i can get the drum laced in or buy the wheel with it already installed, but where do i start. any suggestions? i need some help boys and girls.

Fred, for a quick easy INEXPENSIVE upgrade, install the generic $15 front center-pull brake, available at your nearest bike shop.

For effective auxiliary front braking, rub the tire sidewalls with both shoes.

That's what Fred Flintstone would do.

In a pinch for an emergency brake you can stick your foot between the top of your tire and your fork crown.

This will bring your bike to an immediate stop.

(Edit: Never ever do that...I was just joking. You will go over the handlebars, lose your foot or some nasty combination of the two)

Sounds like something Fred would do, but it actually does work, especially if you have a lot of time to stop.

Not as dangerous as that single-foot-in-the-fork.
