Just purchased my first engine kit from Amazon. I know they are cheap but wanted to start out without spending too much money at first. Got everything installed and discovered there was no spark. I checked this by removing the plug, inserting it in the spark plug boot on the coil and touching the threaded portion of the plug to ground and pedaling. No spark. I also checked by removing the plug from the boot and replacing it with a screw driver, then holding onto the metal part of the screwdriver and touching ground with the same hand while spinning the rear wheel with the bike off the ground in a holder. Did not even tickle my hand.
I tested the magneto and it read 340 ohms and there is continuity from the black wire to ground. I replaced the magneto with a new one, still no spark. The second magneto tested the same as the last one. The magnet has plenty of magnetism. The air gap between the magnet and magneto is equal all the way around. I replaced the coil with a new one, no spark. I even tried a third magneto still no spark. I swapped around parts just to make sure I didn't miss anything. I also disconnected the kill switch while testing. I am feeling pretty stupid right now. Any ideas?

At this point I would first unplug/disconnect the kill switch and then see if you have spark, many times the kill switches are defective right from the factory, if it still doesn't work, replace the CDI unit, and last but not least, throw out the Z-4 or Z-8 spark plug that come with these kits as the Chinese crap spark plugs are known to be junk and replace it with an NGK-BR6HS.

Thanks for replying Damien. As I stated above the kill switch was disconnected during testing. And as stated above I replaced the CDI coil. If I don't get shocked while holding onto the plug wire a different plug won't help. Oh, I also checked the magneto's continuity to ground and it is good. I am missing something and hoping someone out there has maybe run across the same issue.

At this point, I would return that POS back through Amazon...As you had previously stated,
I know they are cheap but wanted to start out without spending too much money at first.
As you probably well know "cheap" isn't the way to go in most cases, you get what you pay for.

If you want to start out "Cheaper" from a reputable vendor and have a complete, soups to nuts 6 month warranty and great customer service to go with it, order the Silver Slant motor kit from these folks...The Sliver Slant is also a Zeda engine.

Ps...I also never order from them online, I'm old school, I pick up the phone and talk to them in person, that way I can ask any and all questions that I want answers to whilst I am at it...lol.

This is their phone number up in Bozeman, Montana (406) 586-5970

I agree. The silver slant is a very good engine with a 6 month warranty.
