I'm building another chopper and can't get this damn crank set off, I have removed them before without the tool pretty easily, but on this I have tried all I can think of, even welded a 2 ft pipe across the center for equal leverage and even put a tube behind the sprocket and inflated it until it popped and woke up my neighbors. Got the left ride off after 2 hours. What's the damn secret and if you tell me to go buy the tool I'm sorry, but I'm one stubborn SOB and I will not give in!

Go and buy the correct tool. :p

Hmm.. I have done it in my murky past life.. included lots of swearing, lots of sweating, a rubber mallet, a neighbours wall, and more swearing.:oops:
This isn't what I did but if I simply had to try again I'd try this:
Tie the end of the crank arm, through the pedal hole, to the frame. Lever between the frame and crank arm.
Don't blame me when you dent your frame!

Didn't work but I got it using 2 strips of oak cut at a 55 degree angle as wedges, one on each side with a steel plate and an oak block clamped behind the sprocket to the frame. With the bike against something solid I closed my eyes and swung away, yelling profanities like a sailor for emphasis. After about a dozen swings, it popped right off without any collateral damage!
