yes we require that you wear a helmet-your style & color optional. ive rode many a year on the road & race track & have seen the ramifacations of not wearing one. we dont care how cool you look with or without one, reason #1- safety #2- to appear as responsible adults & good ambasadors for motoredbikeing! & yes we require lights, no big batteries or wires required, just the little led blinky lights will do no turn signals required, just use hand turn signals, if ya dont know what that means well show ya when ya get here. there are no restrictions for engine size or make, as long as you have pedals that at least rotate, as long as ya dont have a v8 with straght pipes (now pictureing the wide pedal crank for v8) anyway its all nutural ground at the rally & acceptance, comaradery,& the ride is what its all about! (everybody leave there political baggage at home!) now if we can get past politics well start the planning!! if ya dont like what we do in ocean park, dont come its that simple, but w'ed love to have ya!! & yes the thread is for the planning of the event, & we accept all input as to event structure ect. what we whould really like to see is more great minds & bodys involved in the planning process. safety & good responsible ambasadorship of motoredbikeing is our # 1 goal as to pave the way for future motoredbikers & present ourselfs in a positve way to the public.so bring what ya got- lifan, happytime, huashang, honda, tanaka, subaru, henway, or canardly! there all welcome here! no matter what color they are!!!

i went to the extreme to demonstrate how extreme-terms like "outlaw" can affect a discussion. i know what an "outlaw" is and i ain't interested in going down that road. i also know what posing is, and it doesn't impress me much either. i tend to be realistic about the situation & i believe that self-regulation is a better path than laying low and waiting for over-regulation to rear it's head. in ocean park, that philosophy is working. i recommend you try this "preemptive" strike in yer area, too...maybe a helmet, lights, & hand-signals would convince a cop he has more important things to worry about.

you do make one valid point: of course there are "other ways" to do things...

imo, the "other way" to get your point across would be to start a topic about rally standards or lack of....notice how many different ones are in the works? notice how i don't go running around trying to force my rally-standards on other rally-planners & mucking up their efforts and planning? how about you return the favor?

this topic is about a rally that already has certain established standards...based on a lot of forethought, and on the obvious success of our effort...and we need to work out some stuff to make sure next year is a success also...

please, let us get on with it.

btw-my everyday helmet is a simple flat-black DOT shorty, and imo it looks pretty cool...

and we all know it does it's job (see "full augi") ;)

Few suggestions I have for the rally Weekend would be to have a couple two way radios on the orginized ride. Also maybe a orginized ride on Saturday allong with the small group rides we where doing on Saturday.

ah...a "guide committee"

JE...since we now have more riders who know the area, saturday rides would be cool, you could invite a small group out for a tour whenever you felt like it...but we need to keep the amount of "mb-congestion" to a minimum, which was a (community) consideration when we chose to have only one "official" group ride. a lesson learned from the beach-baron's event growing so large that they were forced to cut back on official road-time because of community feedback. i'm almost positive we can get police-support for one ride, i highly doubt they'd be willing to give us more than that.

the all-day bbq was a brilliant way for everyone to be able to find each other...we wouldn't want the place to be empty when new riders roll in...small groups (3 or 4 riders) rolling in and out during the day added to the already cool atmosphere, i say go for it (but try to NOT spoil the surprise of ledbetter point for newcomers, save it for the sunday ride) and see how it goes. the locals can recommend several alternate 10-mile routes that are an absolute blast. maybe we post a saturday tour-schedule with a signup sheet, several small groups instead of one large group?

tell us: as a volunteer guide, how would you (and others who want to help) organize the saturday rides?

oh, yeah...don't forget we need to squeeze the sale/swap in there, too...2 days is not a lot of time. someday folks will start taking a week, our numbers will grow, we'll find a real facility, and then we'll go whole-hog with a commercial event. the peninsula has tons of resources (and the enthusiasm) to help us when we're ready...despite appearances, there IS a method to our madness

I think several small orginized group rides on saturday would be cool and Small after hrs Swap at Waveys would be cool. I'd be willing to lead a group on a 10 mile ride on Saturday.

i love it...you'd be able to pick yer own time and describe the route, post it on the schedule and folks can sign up...hopefully we can offer a selection if we get a few more volunteers

I like a lot of the ideas being posted here, and I hope you don't mind if we "borrow" some for the Mid Atlantic Rally next year. Regarding the private swap meet, we tried it this year at our rally, and it was hardly intrusive. There was no hawking to the public, and it was all basically handled out of the back of our trucks and vans. 'Nuff said about that.
I like the idea of having two way radios on the rides for instant communication. If not that, may I suggest that people on the rides program cell phone numbers of key people (ride leaders, chase vehicle) into their phones to allow for quick communication. At the East Coast Rally, I had everyone's cell phone numbers.
Oh by the way, regarding helmets, Delaware has a helmet law that if not worn, it still has to be displayed while riding. I'm happy to say that everyone was wearing helmets on the rides out of the park.
My everyday helmet - a gloss white (with black trim) half helmet (DOT approved). It looks straight out of CHiPs.
Keep the good ideas coming, and I hope we can reciprocate with some good ideas you guys could use.

Borrow away! Augie set a good high standard. I'm excited and it's only October.

I can lead, follow, escort, whatever it takes. It's pretty easy to stay "unlost" in the area.:D
