Engine Trouble Peculiar Noise

... back where I started; worse than when I got here.

... good idle was with PTFE threadseal tape around manifold-carb lip. I took carb off and think gas ate it, so I tried a strip of polyethylene (HDPE) cloth. I'm going to try threadseal tape again. If it gets eaten, maybe get an o-ring.
... but this is it running with threadseal tape; which sounds healthy to me:
