Most petcocks from kits are 10mm x1.0.

Have you tried Teflon tape on the threads?

When my petcock leaked it came out around the handle not the threads.

No but I did use some permatex high temp thread sealant I bought at the auto parts zone.
Funny but it was leaking this morning at 4:30 am when I put gas in it to ride to work this morning, but when I came out from work and rode home now it's not leaking. Hope it's not going to be an intermittent problem. Maybe I should put that on my list of spare parts to order to have on hand for future failures.

My main issue is the thread about valve positioning.

I keep modifying my tank higher and screwing the valve tighter.

I'd love to see a drastic overhaul here.
