Break In Phantom 85 “pop” and then died and won’t start on first ride

After much help from the useful moderators on this forum I was finally able to get my phantom 85 build firing up, only problem is on my first REAL test ride at about 5 miles in while I was giving it low throttle it made a sudden “pop” and then died and I couldn’t get it to start anymore. I was running the engine a little lean so when I got home I adjusted the “C” clip into the middle but it won’t fire up anymore. After a while I’ll try agian and I’ll the the occasion “pop” “pop” but no real acceleration or consistent combustion and then it stops and just turns over. I’ve rechecked my electrical components and they read OK. I’ve also noticed a few leaks at the base gasket and noticed a tear on the Exhaust gasket but I wouldn’t think it would be enough of an air leak for a no start. This was the clearest photo I could take of the tear. I’ve taken the cylinder head off and no damage to piston or cylinder. I don’t think my kit came with 2 gaskets as everybody seems to say they’ve received. But there’s no clear sound of an air leak like some I’ve heard my head nuts are torqued to 12 ft pounds like y’all have suggested.
The pop you heard was the head gasket. Pull the head off and if you look I'll bet you'll find blow by Mark's on the head and jug Seam. You'll have to redeck the head and jug to get them true again. I used 150 grit wet/dry sandpaper taped to a verified true flat board and running water then honed the head and jug in figure 8 movements and checked them with a straight edge. You'll also need a new head gasket and jug gasket you can order from Amazon for about 8 bucks.

Phantom 85s don't have head gaskets. They're a 1 piece chainsaw cylinder

Gordy is correct of course, since he has one Phantom motor and I own two Phantoms.
I usually do not try to make recommendations on motors I have never had and no nothing about like Whizzer motors etc. and leave the giving of that kind of advice to those who own, ride, and maintain Whizzers, so it also goes for Phantom 85s since they are NOT like the common China Girl motors, they are a beast all their own.

Chris117 hasnt been back to add any more information to this thread since he started it 4 months ago and in order to prevent any more unrelated information concerning the Phantom 85 motor, (It does not have a separate head but is a one piece cylinder), Nor will you find head gaskets at amazon for 8 bucks since Phantom head gaskets do not even exist...
I am now locking this thread.

Anyone needing to talk about or ask questions concerning a Phantom motor can start a thread of their own on the subject.
