All this abouts phantoms making more power as a piston port BUT nobody telling me why! My assumption was the reduction in crank volume. Ya know kinda like stuffing would. Possibly adding mid range power. Somebody gimme the run down. Why and where is it adding said power. I've got a reed on my avenger bcuz I'm a high rpm power guy. Am I missing the point? I get some bananas speed outa it but could I have more without the reed?

Simple Answer, the port timing on the V3 Phantom in particular is less aggressive than it is on the Stihl saw it's based off of, and the Saw has no reeds. The reeds are a restriction to the intake, and if the intake charge volume going in is reduced greater by the reeds than the blow-back of the normal piston port design, there will be a loss in intake charge, and thus power.

As far as torque goes, In theory the Phantom should lose low end torque and power because a reed generally does increase power down low thanks to the higher crank case pressure generated by the reeds, BUT the design of most Saws - in particular the Stihl saws - is already meant to optimize low rpm torque due to how a Saw generally operates - being bogged down while cutting - which is why they try to optimize torque, and thus efficiency, in the low and middle RPM ranges.

With that said, it's only half a HP, and the reeds cut down on the blowback through the intake.

Your the best man. Always well put! It's been killing me. Lol

I have had to spend a large portion of my life explaining mechanical, electrical, and operational theory and practical application to people that don't have an understanding of it. It's one of those weird talents I never tried to acquire, but have become fairly good at anyway out of necessity.

Well for those that actually wrench it's incredibly pleasant when someone can explain in detail their point. Especially when your inquiry may require advanced knowledge in the field. Best explanations online man. Ya got talent. Lol how about a pop up piston? Thinking about it. Would love your input. So far I've had a pretty spicy avenger. Hard to belive I could grab more power without the reed but I'll consider it so far my combo as it sits has exceed expectations. I will say I'm weary to touch transfer because casting appears inconsistent and I've seen multiple ppl break right thru. I don't like play doh on my motor. Also if you've got any thoughts on boost port designs I'd love that. Next point is of vanity but gotta ask my ld100 sounds like a banshee but the avenger just sounds like a saw with pipe? Any thought on exhaust note?
TLDR- 1.pop up piston? 2 transfer porting any tip for yd85? 3.boost port designs(height,width,ect...)4.exhaust note(how to make sound more like ld100)? 5. Just some tinkering ideas... I'm a high rpm guy? Ty in advance. I always ask alot of you but I just don't trust many opinions.

Just an up to speed on my avenger build
Yd85-modded bofeng,g2 stuffed, rough intake port 120 grit, transfers cleaned but only opened about 1mmish,polished exhaust port, smolik head, viton seal,.8 squish, ngk bpr6hs,mz65 belly pipe. Any ideas or critique appreciated! I'm just never satisfied lol
