What is this plate they are talking about? I tore the magneto covers off 3 new engines last nite & none of mine have any sort of plate behind it. Is it supposed to?

Depends on who makes them. It should have the plate though, really helps to reduce magneto side seal blow outs when changing case compression etc. I've never had a CDH without one. I looked at all my engines from them and they all have them.

if you see two screws behind the magnet up top and some shiny shiny, you got one.

I need to figure out where to buy them, or I have to make my own when hand building engines.
