Rag Joint with 2 1/2 inch center & hardware for Sturmey Archer 3 speed axle

You have to convert it to fixed gear and put a new wheel in the back to copy cannonball. Post in thread 'potential minarelli jackshaft chain issues' https://motoredbikes.com/threads/potential-minarelli-jackshaft-chain-issues.66081/post-702928

If you're going for a jackshaft, look into the Shimano front freewheel, get one for the American one piece cranks. You should be able to buy the whole crank and bearing assembly on eBay for a reasonable price. I would use that a a Chinese fast follow of the first gen SBP shift kits that are still hanging around.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm looking for a semi truck mud flap now. LOL I've opened up the sprocket to fit over the SA axle and now have to make the metal semi circle's. I've already made cardboard templates for those. Just need to get the rubber. Only concern with this is having clearance for the drive chain once all is bolted together. I may have to use smaller grade #5 or #8 fastenings. But I'll try what came with the kit first.

Question: The 2 inch center rubber pieces that came with the kit, could those be cut into 3 pieces allowing 3 small gaps and then used in that manner? Or is it better to use one solid piece?

For now, I'm only wanting to install the motor kit and break it in some. The idea of using the SA as a jack shaft is rather appealing as this will be part of my Camper where I may encounter some terrain from time to time there the gear ratios could prove handy.

It's best to keep the whole circle. Actually it's best to not use a rag joint period, but I know that's not an option in your case.

Maybe you could look into getting a 3 speed sturmey archer hub with a disc brake mount and lace it in to your wheel hoop

I agree with Gordy, a simple jackshaft setup to drive the pedal side would greatly simplify things. The only catch to that is needing a crank freewheel that can handle the power. Since the bike only has a single pedal chain, the chain can be heavier duty type than often found on traditional multi-speed freewheel/cassette setups, so they tend to hold up much better.
You can run a 410 chain on a 3 speed hub. If you must go with a standard bicycle chain then use a Shimano HG71 chain designed for e-bikes. Other good chains are a Sram P90 or a KMC X99.

Points taken. I believe my kit has the 410 chain with it. I've watched some Youtube videos where a young teen kid was suggesting a tear down prior to install and checking the deck for 1 mm squish, flashing debris from the casting, unchamfered ports magneto retarding to avoid 4 cycling and all of that which I could get into later. Done some of that when I was a kid with my 90 cc Yahama Eenduro. But for now the basics are all I need as I have a 1 year warranty. Still, I'm really grateful for all of the ideas and input.

It may be a 410 chain but more than likely it's a 415 chain

This is a real truth, rags are fine so long as rags are tight, you must simply keep it all tight.

I realize that cannonball ended up using a fixie version but his initial idea was using a regular SA 3 speed if I recall, sounded doable but the fixie was a much better option
