Rag joint

Do rag joints come in different sizes? I see that they have ones with 2 or 3 metal pieces and the 41 tooth sprocket I just bought doesn't fit the 2 piece one so hoping the 3 piece one is a little bigger. Thanks for any info.

Be careful on your spoke count, has to divisible by 9.

I have a rag joint on it now and the new sprocket is a 9 hole just like old one but just a little different spacing.

I have swapped the three piece for the two piece before, and it all worked. The kits back when were pretty much all the same, and parts could be swapped around. Especially if one kit had a certain part that worked on a particular bike, I would just take it out of another, but different kit.

Maybe now the kits have proprietary parts, you can probably make them work but you need an old tire to make new rags.

Car tire, with a solid side wall. Some of the rag joints from the kit have a permanent curve to them because of the area of the tire that they are cut from.

Consider using a sabersaw to cut rags out of an old worn out conveyor belt. Talk to a conveyor belt dealer about a disgarded belt.

Or a saw mill, they have lots of conveyors.
