That's what I use. Or, you can use mums granite counter top.

What grit of sandpaper do you finish with?

I finish with 220. But you can go all the way to 2000 for a mirror finish if ya want

No wonder I kill myself trying to start my damn bike. I used only 120 grit on a belt sander, no glass.

A belt sander with 120 is good for removing alot of material. But the belt sander table isn't 100% flat. Also something about the fast moving belt.
I find it never can make what I'm sanding 100% flat. I usually start to resurface my heads with 120 on the belt sander then finish off on plate glass with 220.
Tip: Mark up the surface your about to sand with a black sharpie pen. Check your work while sanding and you'll be able to see the low spots.
When all the sharpie marks are gone it's flat. Remark with sharpie pen and sand them off one more time to double check your work.
