when re-ringing, you have to be sure to set the angled ends of the ring "around" the locater pins pressed into the piston.

there are other styles of ring and pin, but the theory is the same: the ring-ends must "straddle" the pin.

when properly positioned, the rings can be compressed by hand as you slide the piston down into the cylinder.
