Striker on a match book, after you use the cover to set the dwell, always worked for me. Then use a match to light the stogie in your mouth. lol

Now I know why grandpa crystal said the same thing. I always just used the striker to knock the carbon off, or a piece of sand paper. Never thought about the dime leaving silver behind to reduce resistance and refresh the faces. He's the one whom taught me the hotel match book dwell trick. Not sure if they are as thick as they were back when I was younger. They may be thinner now days.
