Second annual Mid Atlantic MB Rally, Cape Henlopen (Lewes) DE September 26 & 27, 2009

Well the weather gods smiled upon us today. We have a great showing so far. 19 motored bikes if I counted correctly. Quenton has the twin engine Whizzer running and the Harbor Freight engine builds were a great success. Hope the rain coming tonight pulls out early enough to allow more fun tomorrow. We have Whizzers, EZ's, Happy Times, a Titan, HF Greyhounds engines and probably more that I can think of now for the evening festivities have begun. More pictures tomorrow. What a great place for a rally! The Atlantic Ocean on one side and Delaware Bay on the other. The rains over night ended early and the sun came out again for us on Sunday. Quenton won a trophy for the peoples choice award for the twin engine Whizzer and Ray won the trophy for the farthest distance traveled to attend the event. I can't wait for next year.

Jim

Wow! It's hard to believe the Rally is already over. What a great gathering! We had 19 motoredbikes, and folks who attending were members of one or both forums as well as one soul who is a member of neither forum. We had nice, cool weather on Saturday. While it looked like it was about to rain for a goos part of the day, the rain held off until nighttime. Sunday morning saw the rain move out and we enjoyed a nice warm, sunny day.
On Saturday, Jay (Jbcruisin) led a group of riders all over Lewes and beyond. At one point after crossing the main (six-lane) highway I thought he had us heading towards Millsboro, but we turned around and headed back.
We had a picnic lunch at the park on Saturday, and the food was great! I brought my famous turkey meatballs, but special thanks go out to Ray for the BBQ ribs and chicken, Bonnie for the macaroni salad, Maria for the home-made stromboli that almost earned her two marriage proposals and Anna for the great brownies. I hope I didn't leave anyone out. We had several rides in the park, headed out to annoy the good folks of Lewes a few times and had a great time averall. It all came to an end too soon. We had a few breakdowns, such as Mike's Whizzer's autoclutch seizing and Joe's blown head gasket. I almost hit a deer that ran out in front of me in the park. I can say that the Worksman front hub and Shimano coaster brake on my Whizzer are excellent! They brought me to such a quick stop I nearly went over the bars. Better that than hitting that deer! We had two awards that we gave out, and Quenton took the People's choice award for his Twin Whizzer, while Rustico Ray too the award for farthest distance travelled. He drove 411 miles (one-way) to get to the event. I'll post some photos on Monday evening.

Photos...

I tried to post photos last night, but fell asleep at the keyboard. Let's see if I have better luck this time. Here are some photos from the event. This first batch of photos shows Quenton on his twin-engined Whizzer. Enjoy!

Even more photos

Here are some more shots. First, Mike's Whizzer's auto clutch fries itself enroute to town. Quenton returns 10 minutes later with a new clutch and Mike's on his way again. Next shot shows (L to R) Mike, Quenton, Matt and Jay approaching "The Point" at the park. The next two shots are views of "The Point" at Cape Henlopen.

Here are some scenery shots taken at the park...
Neither of those deer is the one I almost hit on my Whizzer.

Even more...

Here are some more photos. First photo is Quenton (l) and Ray(r) with their trophies. Quenton took the "People's Choice" award for the Twin Whizzer, while Ray took the "Farthest Distance Traveled" award for his 411 mile trek to get to Cape Henlopen. Second photo is of the "last left standing", or those riders remaining at the very end on Sunday. From l to r: me, Quenton, Ray, Jim, Mike, Jay and Matt. The third shot is of a youth group that wanted to pose by the bikes on Saturday. A couple of our guys joined in, flanking the young lady in the green top. The last two shots are of some of the bikes in attendance.
