Shaft peened need to retap

Depending on the quality of the die you use to rethread it. The die should be marked as to what side start it on. One side of the die will be beveled to kind of guide it in straight. As far as cutting new threads you'll have to file off the mushroom you've created. Slowly work the die back and forth with plenty of oil on the shaft and die. Watch to make sure it's going on straight. Do not force anything to turn. Good luck.

Fixing the crank was a success I bought a Hanson made in the US m8x1.0 die and it worked perfect. I also bought a Chinese SAE and metric tap and die set but I have to show you how bad these are. If it was us making them none of them would pass inspection.
