Shifting Gears

I currently have a single speed setup. A single cog on the pedal side and a single sprocket on the motor side.

I want the ability to shift gears. What options are available for this, is it only a jackshaft kit?

Can you fit a multi speed freewheel on your hub? Then all you need is the derailluer and a jack shaft.

I think I could fit a 3 speed cog. With a jackshaft on, is there a way to make use of a multispeed crankset as well to shift more gears? Or will that break my shins lol.

Multi sprocket up front will give a 3 speed hub awesome range.

Unfortunately with a shift kit you loose the gear set at the cranks.

A five speed freewheel should fit on any freewheel hub.

Fabian figured out how to make it work. He has a video of him making a 3 cog ring for the front.

I never tried it, always been happy with a 36-40 for the drive to the rear wheel on a multispeed rear wheel. I did watch a lot of his videos though. He loved low end pulling, and kept his motors babied for life. He has some good videos on youtube.
