Sidevalve shopper

Hello folks.
Thought you might be interested in some mods I've made to my side valve shopper. There are some other pics in the 'introduce yourself-lawnmower subversion in Devon' thread.
I've just added the vertical stays, a front brake and sorted the gear change for the motor. It now sports 3 speeds and works a dream. Pulls up a 20% hill and lops along on the flat at a good lick with a relaxed rpm

There's a vid of it on utube. Search for 'homemade motored bike demo' if you're interested.

Lawnmower subversion in Devon 2

Hi again.
Thought you might like to see my latest project.
The design brief was; really light and simple power assist. Friction drive.
So I took one of my 5(!) strimmers apart and welded it to the back of a mountain bike.

Easy. Erm well life's a learning curve and so was this.
Got my calcs wrong and made too large a drive drum. Even at a relatively small diameter of 13cm the motor labours at 2000rpm at 10mph. I was after more like 5000 rpm at 10mph. A smaller drum just won't bite the tyre so the next move is to add some reduction gearing.
Wish me luck.
