Skyhawk kit, couple questions.....

Ok, couple problems fixed, couple more have arisen.... my pull start has crapped out (when pulling it's not catching anything) I've pulled the cover off, but I really don't know what I'm looking at/for.... any tips?

Anybody?

I've mucked about with it a bit, it seems if I loosen the screw in the centre of the rope pull mechanism I get somewhere, but 2 out of 3 times it will pull out, but will not return!

I'm getting a little tired of taking the damn thing on and off, especially as I had a visit with my eye specialist this morning and the whole world is still a little blurry..... :(

I was thinking your problem would be addressed by now (lordknows I'm no help) BUT every neighborhood has the lawn mower repair man, who would be able to pinpoint the problem- spring/coil or whatever....

Took it for a spin last night, and it won't even compression start!

Here's the reply I got from the seller:
Hi Shane, I have never had any problems with the GGG2 engines but the last 4 of them that I have sold have reported the same type of problem with the clutch within the last few days. None of them have been returned to be repaired yet for me to know exactly what the problem is. At a guess I would say that the drive key in the back of the centrifugal clutch is broken. With the rope pull starter it sounds like the recoil spring has broken. The pull start is meant to be used in the seated position and should never be fully extended, it is ideal to limit the travel of the rope to about 3/4 of its length. I can send you a pull starter repair kit to fix the problem with the starter but that still leaves the problem with the clutch. Your engine should be repaired or replaced under warranty. All warranty repairs are shipped at the buyers expense in both directions. With the reported problems with the last few GGG2 engine kits I can not guarantee that you wont have any problems if I replace your engine with another GGG2 engine. The choice is yours, you can send back your engine now for me to repair, I can send you the pull start repair kit to get you going or I will give you the option of using the total purchase price of this engine kit towards a new type of friction clutch engine that is 3 x the quality of any other engine of its type available anywhere. If you want to upgrade your engine it will cost $125 using the warranty replacement of your engine as a deposit or they will be $450 for the first 2 weeks they are in stock and $495 after that. The new engines are due to arrive about the middle of May. Can you let me know what you decide please,

What would you do? Seems the easiest thing would be to send it back, get an electric motor and be done with it..... small problem, I've already welded the tank brackets and front motor mount to the frame!

This is typical for me, nothing is as easy as it appears to be, and it ends up costing me $'s :censored:

I just went to your intro....you have a pull start with a manual clutch. cool! let's try to see why you can't pedal start your bike.
The GGG your dealer is talking about has a centifugal clutch. (automatic...Give Gas & Go) No pedal starting that one.

What exactly happens when you pedal & pop the clutch?

It acts as thought it wants to go, but just putters and dies, has me thinking that the clutch is working, maybe the idle is too low?

Fuel flow adequate? Proper choking? (mine starts best @ 3/4 choke, no throttle)

How's the plug look?

Will check all those things when I get home tonight Joe, but it seemed to be running fine on sunday when I was just starting it on the rope without the clutch (or chain) yet hooked up..... I mean it would start and idle, but twist the throttle and it would die.

throttle die

Twisting the throttle and dying always brings me back to pulling the filter in the petcock and throwing it far away and then spend the 2.00 and get an in line filter.
Just a learned guess!
Doc

Yeah, I've heard tell a few of these tanks come full of crud. Mine wasn't bad, but I pulled that screen out and threw it across the street where all "bad things" go. I have the included in-line filter on there now, and it looks to be working fine.

Back to the subject, it sound like you are starving for gas, will it take throttle with a little bit of choke on?
