Slowly but surely . . .

This project is taking a while (cash flow).

So the governor bar is wedged between the governor gear and the rear/right hand crank weight. Going to remove all of the governor parts and see what happens. No visible damage. And the gasket on the cover is still in great condition. Didn't have to do to much to get it off the motor. Hope to have it all back together this afternoon and when it warms up a bit take it on a test run.

Okay, governor is out (major PITA), putting motor/cvt back together.

Update: Bike is back up and running. Very cold outside still. I rode just around the driveway and it's running good. Kinda cold blooded motor, may have to rejet the carb. Also installed the drop out chain tensioners the other day and they are working good. I just have a lot of lateral motion in the chain. I may have to get a chain guide.

Awesome, glad you were lucky too!

Did you make sure to inspect the cam gear teeth? They are fragile.

2nd Ride on the Monster:

Really having some issues with the rear axle. I can't seem to figure out the configuration. Do the bearings have to be inset in the hub? Or are they suppose to be flush with the edge of the hub? How do I take up the slack on the axle without binding the wheel up? Anyway, rear wheel is off until I can figure this out.

Here's a few pictures of the hub, the side opposite of the rear sprocket. The edge looks like it is getting rubbed forming a ridge around the outside of the hole and that bearing is getting worn. I will have to replace it. Maybe I will just have to get a real motorcycle rear wheel and beef up the dropouts.

So looking around on ebay, I found this and took a screenshot. It looks like the bearings do need to be inset from the edge of the hub and then there is a special axle nut I need. The nut I need is at the top of the screenshot where I magnified the view. It is the one below the drop out nut. Added two other pictures of the bearings in the hub. They both stick out. The sprocket side not too bad, but the other bearing sticks out a lot.

Where did the bearing go? Should be a bearing and a seal behind a nut.

Did you look at all the pictures I posted? I took all of the parts out of the hub to show what was happening.
I put the bearings back in to show the clearance between the bearing and the hub edge.
