So whats the best motor for speed

So I've had problems with messing with the c clip ans I might just use the needle an c clip off the carb i have now. Everytime I try and mess with them it won't run so I might just transfer over the setup

So tell me...What problems have you had with the C clip and how many times have you attempted to do this on a Phantom 85 ???

NO, you DO NOT use the needle you have on another carburetor unless it too is a JRL Bofeng carburetor like what comes with the Phantom 85, the reason is because the taper and the length will be slightly different but usually enough to make a difference in how it is going to run.

Alright I ordered the phantom 85 and it should be on its way next week. I really hope it works great and up to my specs
It is not YOUR specs that count here but the manufacturers specs that need to be met.
You have come to the forums purposely looking for advice on the Phantoms and I have given it to you.

I think I will just hang back from now on and let you ask someone else with more Phantom experience than I have.

If you think your gonna be able to mix and match parts including the needle valve that may or may not be from another type of carburetor, be my guest, but just remember you came here to ask, I answered, I gave you pretty good instructions about the needle valve once you told me your elevation...I even gave you pics of what order it all goes back together into the slide barrel.

I'm the one going half blind at almost 70 yrs old with macular degeneration and I can still see well enough to do this with some bifocals lenses to help me see what I am doing, rheumatoid arthritis in both hands as well...lol.

For the life of me, I can't figure out what possible problems you could be having adjusting a little C clip on a needle valve which is really quite basic.

Mixing and matching with these little carbs doesn't usually work out well. Too many manufacturers who all build to slightly different specs. I don't recommend doing so.

I think what you guys are only seeing is that I said use the same one off of my other carb. I'm not gonna really use the same one I'm saying I'm gonna use the same set up on this carb as I have in the one that's on my bike now not really using the same needle from another carb I've got enough experience in building engines to know that swaping parts is never a good idea. One thing i do need help with is with the new ngk plug whats a good gap for it? Every engine likes a better gap then the next so if you guys have the right gap please let me know.

Around here 0.025" is what the guys go for.

So should I go with the ngk out the box or the China z plug tell it's broken in and then go to the ngk?
Don't throw away that China Plug it's still good
Hit the China plug electrode against your workbench so the gap is closed,
Now thread a piece of fishing line thru and use that China plug for a fishing sinker 🎣

Use a new NGK plug for your engine

I put a swivel over the electrode and screw the cap back down on top, gives me something to tie onto without kinking my line. Makes a great dropper weight.

When you do receive your motor and start putting it together, tell me what your elevation is in Oregon and I will tell you where to place the C clip on the carburetor needle valve for the breakin period.
