So you want an ebike for Christmas? How about this one?!!

And just for your FYI, This video and thread is talking about a brand new, out of the box, stock Ebike with its factory installed, manufacturer approved battery that turned itself into a Rolling Molotov Cocktail on it's very first ride of 9.5 minutes.

This is unacceptable by anyones standards and does not encourage folks like me to run out and spend the $6,000 dollars this abomination cost for 9.5 minutes of pleasure.

Everyone already knows about aftermarket batteries, (usually also from China), and the fire hazards they pose, yet people do it anyways taking their chances of endangering themselves as well as others in the process...Where are the laws and safeguards against these dangerous replacement batteries from being imported here in the first place as well as the liability of the retailers that are selling them???

Just like Tesla's going up in flames with their factory approved batteries, these Ebikes have been doing the same without the "aid" of aftermarket batteries coming from dubious sources.

Long story short, It is the technology that is wrong here, it has not been thoroughly tested and properly approved by any outside agencies to the safety standards that gasoline equipped vehicles have to pass in order to be on public highways and byways...They have a long way to go yet to gain the credibility and confidence of the buying public.

Ps...I also noted what this NYC reporter in that article said here.

The uptick in e-scooter and e-bike battery fires comes as the NYPD continues a crackdown on illegal powered two-wheel vehicles — as well as mopeds and ATVs — which are a transport of choice for gunmen looking for a quick getaway.

Since when have Ebikes been an "illegal powered two-wheel vehicle"...They still rent ebikes and escooters in NYC last that I knew...lol...as well as in most major cities in the USA.

The NY Daily News was always a garbage, so-called journalism, rag of a so-called newspaper when I lived on the east coast and it looks like it still is just from the reporters erroneous, "one size fits all" style of reporting...lol.

Also, the cells that are used in most cheap batteries wouldn't pass scrutiny of a major companies QC. Go price a Panasonic or LG lithium cell like a 26650 and compare it to the price of a cheap off brand. Usually 3 times the price, and worth every penny. That doesn't mean there aren't good cheaper cells out there, but as Magicycle said, do your research.

In reality it is actually not that hard, or expensive, to build your own battery pack. Basic soldering skills, a bit of time, and a multi-meter covers 95% of it.

Ha! They use violent crime as a reason to ban electric bikes and scooters. I am so glad I don't live there.

It's almost like violent crime in the UK to me...They don't allow regular citizenry to have hand guns for personal protection or anything resembling our laws about gun ownership, even their regular duty cops are not allowed to carry.

They stopped their gun violence pretty much...lol...But it did not deter violent crime one iota.

They just use knives and stab people to death instead...lol...as I read the Brit news everyday and they always report brutal mutiple stabbing murders on a daily basis.

I don't know about anyone else, but I would rather be shot to death quickly than being repeatedly stabbed to death enduring the pain and agony and repeated violence of all that...lol.

I played online games with a guy from the UK. He said in the UK you can't even buy plastic knives if you are under 18...

I guess they don't trust their people with anything sharper than a crayon...lol...Got to love lefty, socialist, woke, nanny states...lol...lol.

And the funniest part of it all in "Old Blighty"...Their still bowing and scraping to a disfunctional Royal Family and calling them "Your Highness" and supporting them with their taxes and the "Royals" don't even rule...Parliament does...lol...lol...Talk about dumb....lol...lol.

Yet, somehow, they still fail to realize - with the evidence in front of their faces - that these laws and restrictions they put in place in the name of "safety" are only harming the population. Knives are banned in prison, yet shivs still exist... Why can't these people figure out that you cannot legislate yourself into safety. It doesn't work, and it never has. Yet, they keep on trying. Soon they will have to ban rocks and sticks.
