Okay it's all good now! To any newbies who end up here: when you put the bowl back on, double check that it's on straight. Mine felt like it was on straight, but there was a gap on one side. I removed and replaced it, this time checking from all sides to make sure it was on straight with no gaps, and now it appears to be leak free.
