IDK if this little thing can ever propel me. It's so weak it struggles up slight upgrades and has no chance at even light hills without pedal assist, this with a 44 tooth sprocket. I may have fun with it though trying to get something out of it. TBH I have barely begun with it, but I already am thinking chainsaw top end? I mean it has 6mm stud holes anyway, but IDK about the bolt pattern...

Anyway I pulled the plug to try and get an idea of running condition and it's hard for me to tell. The plug is barely used, but to me it looks maybe just a tad lean?

Anyway, getting it dialed in to run as strong as it can as is, is the first step. This may become a fun project for my first attempt at porting, just to get the motor to be useful to my 300# fat ass...

Looks more than a little lean to me
Damn it, I keep running into obstacles. I guess I need a break. My new bike already had a flat on the front, so I had to pull the wheel of the old bike to get to the hardware store, only to find they're out of cable sets for the upgrade handlebars my new bike so desperately needs. Bike shops are closed on Sundays and Mondays of course, so thank God for Amazon, I can at least do my bars tomorrow.

Now though I will have to address the lacking front wheel, and the fuel tank before I can even play with the 49cc.

I had a feeling something wasn't right, even a 49cc should get me up small hills without needing pedal assist.

It's just that I am totally in a ""get it done mode" today, and now I can't get much of what I wanted to do done. I guess I can pull the wheel off my pedal bike to run the 49cc and tune on it when the petcock arrives.

I'm kinda excited to see what this little thing can do. I know it's got more than I've gotten out of it, I bet a lot more than I might think.

I know needle adjustment can make a radical difference on my PK80, so maybe even more so on a mighty mite engine...

Did you ever look in the ports on your 48cc? Is there casting flash hanging down and choking it off?

This pipe should help some.

It's a second hand "barely broken in" motor, but I looked, saw none...

Well Amazon added to my pile of little obstacles and bumped my petcock until tomorrow, so I won't be getting anything done today. It's OK I'm beat and need a break from it anyway. I have two bolts I stole off the 49cc to replace, I still may ride down to the hardware store before they close and at least get those and an o-ring for the carb.

Do NT carbs need an o-ring? I've always had one, so IDK...?

All my new kits come with the Bofeng carb and I haven't seen an NT for quite awhile. Is there a shoulder inside of the carb to support an O-ring?

Yes, it has to be the same size as the end up the intake to fit between there and the carb lip. They don't come with o-rings but I see lots of folks saying to use one.

Oh for sure, use one. Make sure you have a little pressure on it before you tighten down the carb.

I still have high hopes for this little motor. If I can get it at least running its best I could sell it and buy a newer bigger thing it's true, but being as it was a gift, I very much prefer to try and make something usable out of it and keep it! If I can even get it to crawl up hills with me on it, it will be an acceptable backup bike.

I had a 48cc on a little bike, it was pretty much a stock set up. 20" wheels on an Auto-Mini folding bike, it would really rip with me on it. It was a fun little bike.
