My son and I are struggling to determine if the engine is getting spark or not. One YouTube video shows someone holding the plug to the cylinder head to ground it, and could see spark. That didn't work. Then tried using a jumper cable to ground it. Nothing. Went out and bought the recommended NGK plug, still won't start. Next tried an inline spark tester, and not sure that we're using it right but think so. Can't peddle quickly but don't see the tool glowing.

Next took the kill switch wiring out of the equation and nothing still. There's not a lot of wiring to inspect, took the cover off next to the clutch and not seeing anything. Both plugs show no sign of any burn. Compression seems fine. I think it's getting fuel.

The magneto gap is not the same from top to bottom, but not sure that would impact the spark. When we took the magneto off, a small piece of metal came out. Reinstalled it but not any closer.

Tried reversing the red and black wires per a video suggestion that maybe the factory reversed it, again, nothing.

This is a new engine, was preassembled and has not run yet.

Really stumped at what to do next. Any recommendations? Could buy a new cdi, but now just throwing random darts.

Have your son grab ahold of the plug and see if it tickles lol

Do you have a bike stand? Or a wheel stand to prop the bike up on while you spin the wheel?

Have you tried the sauce(quick start)? Obviously don't use alot and I recommend a little hit of oil in the plug hole first but see if she pops with ether. If not no spark.

When i want to check spark i lay the spark plug plugged into the boot on top of the head fins, making sure it makes contact, turn most of the lights out in the garage, and literally walk the bike across the garage. Its pretty obvious if theres spark or not.

Even up the magneto gap. If that doesnt work double triple check your wiring / wire connections. Other than that id say try a new cdi.
