do i have to buy seperate coil to fire spark plug on the 142f 49cc engine?

For a different plug? I’m not sure I understand but if you want to run a different plug the stock coil is fine.

what i mean is that i bought the engine and need to know if it needs a seperate coil to start it or is it started by the magneto?for the spark to the plug.

Does it have a black wire on the top with a connector at the end or did you buy it without a coil?

it has a black wire for the kill switch.

If you’re looking at the engine pull start facing you at the top of the motor near the OHV valve cover there should be a black wire with a boot connected to your spark plug you’re telling me it’s missing?

that wire is there. it has 2 wires one is red and the other is black.

It’s a electronic ignition or magneto. There are copper windings inside and as the flywheel spins there are magnets that pass the magneto and make a spark. The stock magneto should be fine unless it’s burnt out or not sparking. I recommend getting an NGK spark plug.

yes i will get the better plug. so those 2 wires i was telling you about are for the kill switch...correct?
