stripped the spline on the drive shaft

So I managed to strip the spline that holds the engine cog in place. I can tighten the nut on the outside till it turns over the engine and then it just works its way free in a minute or so. Can this shaft be easily replaced, or would I be better off just tacking that cog in place?

Just tack it and be done with it.
