It probably happened because you didn't realise that you can only put it in one way.
Did you notice the black "barrel' slide has a groove all the way down it ???, (see in picture below), ...There is a protruding nub on the inside of the barrel chamber of the carburetor on the right hand side when it is mounted on the bike, It is the opposite side of where the idle screw is.
That nub has to ride inside that black barrel groove or it will get stuck inside and you will have to carefully pull it out with needle nose pliers or something similar if you really got it jammed in there.
Once you get it in their correctly it will slide up and down quite easily with no resistance...I am almost willing to bet that you strong armed the twist cap back on there making the jamming much worse.
