Hi all, long time lurker and builder here. I plan on upgrading my boardie from a chinakit to a 79cc or 212cc predator. I love the old suicide shifters and was hoping to implement one into my build. Is there any replacement for the centrifugal clutch so i can just run a pulley wheel and shifter?

Do a search on lawn tractor clutch, they have been using belt tightener clutch for years, and still are. And also take note of the belt guides around the pulley, used to keep the belt in round forum when disengaged. So it don't grab the pulley ............Curt

Thanks, curt. That second and third picture look pretty close to what I'm aiming for. Once i get the motor running, I'll start blocking in the shifter on my plans. I'll update accordingly.

If you are going to belt drive the rear wheel, think on a 20, or 24" rime, and make it wide enough to use super-teen belt. They come in 5 grove and 6 grove, same as 5 or 6 belts, not so much the rim but the front pulley. It will eliminate a lot of slippage on the drive pulley, and look like old school belts. I went to a electrical/ maniacal repair shop and got a free takeoff pulley. I used a 24" rim.............Curt

My rear wheel is 26". I plan on running a chain from the rear wheel to a pulley and a belt from the pulley to the motor.

The first time I saw this type of "clutch" was late 1959, my uncle built the grandkids a motorized bicycle using a Briggs off of a reel type lawnmower. It had a large pulley mounted on the wheel, that pulley I believe came off of an evaporative cooler, a smaller pulley on the Briggs, and what resembled an idler arm for the clutch or engagement pulley. Soon after he built it, the USAF sent us overseas, when we come home 3 years later the "remains" were in the scrap iron pile. But with 15 grandkids, the toys at grandpa's and grandma's ranch took a hell of a beating. We were all driving tractors, pickups and cars by the time we hit junior high.

Just about 60 years ago i did one, 1 1/2 hp Briggs old V-plex clutch ( like a front of cvt, pinched the belt to go ). Bottom bracket bearings in a pipe for jack shaft. Welded a big sprocket to the left side of rear wheel, small sprocket on jack shaft. Road it to death, then traded it and $75 for model A. Before that had a Monark twin for a couple years till rod went out, no parts available, tried but they sent the wrong stuff. End of bikes till couple years ago ...........Curt

Here is a build to read. https://motorbicycling.com/threads/excalibur-09.37011/
