'The Beast' Reborn

Aha.
You know, I've got this flo-thru louvered stealth cowling I made for the gx35.
Now I'm thinking I'll try modifying that and add some automotive sound deadening,
foil-lined sheet to the inside. It seems to be making less noise with subsequent
starts. The problem with the pipe is that it will interfere with my trailer hitch, which
has already been modified a jillion times.
Below is said cowling on the belt drive bike.(different trailer)

.Actually,
sounds like you read this before I edited it. Both bike & trailer are not
the ones in question. I simply wanted to show the cowling. Besides having
flo-thru vents at either end there's a gap behind the blue flap with additional
louvers. I've run the gx35 with this on, and you can't hear it from 30 ft. away
or at all from a closed car. Below is the bike/trlr. that's got the tanaka now.
I really would have preferred to stick with the belt drive, but the brakes on this
bike are far better. This pic was prior to final hitch config & engine mount
(ignore clutch pic)

oops! the pics are not the images intended. You're right about the trailer set up shown
though it was fine until I tried to mount the engine. That took some sorting out, but
it works fine now. However i have some questions on the break-in for the Tanaka.
I did a number of static break-in runs varying rpm without really opening it up.
since then I've only had a chance to ride a few times. It seems that if i run it up
past 20 for more than a cpl. min., it starts to smoke quite a bit, but if I shut it down,
let it cool, then it fires right up with no smoke running as if nothing had happened.
So...Low,is this because I'm giving it more fuel than the system can scavenge or
what?? Is it just part of the break-in? What do I need to do? (the acceleration is fierce)

Rawly,
I usually dont wait too long before I got WOT & never had any problem with 2 or 4 strokers doing this.
What ratio mix are you running?
Tanaka recommends 50:1 but I run around 40:1.
Mine dont smoke at all & I use either Yamalube or Lucas synthetic 2 stroke oil.
-Low-

I'm in the middle at 45 to 1. Might just be the marine 2 stroke oil I
used, (only thing available at the time.) Mixed 2 gal. , not thru it yet.
It only seems to do it after I open it up rapidly. I think I'm OK, it still
runs fine; guess it's just not scavenging as fast as I'm puttin it in ??

I'd get rid of the rest of the pre-mix you have in the tank & get air cooled 2 stroke oil to mix with new gas.
There is a difference

P.S. I think Ive got it sorted out, & I was spooked about
nothing. Oil being denser than gas, and my leaving it set
for days at a time, I think the oil's been concentrating
towards the bottom of the tank. I just went out and gave
the bike a good shaking and then ran it hard around the
neighborhood. Voila! no smoke. Just the same I think I will
swap out the mix. Ya think it'll hurt to put it in my old
six banger ford van?
