The Beast

This is my bike. I have had this ride for about 4 years. I am always upgrading components or improving the overall aesthetics. It’s a rather high performance build with “show car” attention to detail.

Nice build! That thing must fly! What tooth rear sprocket is that? Also, what rear wheel is that? Is that some kind of sprocket adapter you have on the rear hub?

Wow!! That looks like a nasty little piece of work! - - Really nice.
Where did you get that front fork?
Thank you, it is indeed a really cool piece of kit. I found it on eBay. It’s an AMP Research F3, w/ the disk brake flange. It has 2.5” of travel, I also have a carbon fiber F4 with 3.5” of travel for another project. They are beautiful, well made and functional. The company, AMP, got out of the bike game and now makes running boards, for trucks etc.

Thanks, it definitely makes me smile. That is the 29t gear, it mounts directly to the brake flange on the hub, which is an 8sp Sturmey Archer internally geared hub. I have a MZ Miami adapter too. It bolts to the hub, then the gear mounts to it, I prefer the adapter actually. I was able to make a spacer to achieve a very straight chain line. I live at 6000’ with some hills, so I actually prefer a 34t.

Okay, I couldn't see it real good in the pictures. A very cool set up, nice job!

I actually put the 34t, with the adapter and spacer, back on last night. Here’s a couple pics.

What's the benefit of the hydraulic rim brakes compared to disc?
I really like Magura rim brakes. They are kinda unique, they look really cool, easy to install, bleed, and adjust. When I had disks on the bike previously, I didn’t like the way the rear mounts looked on the frame, ruined the consistent curves. I think it looks cleaner overall. Under braking the rim brakes appeared to compress the front suspension less than disk. Clearances were tighter than I liked, with regards to the rear disk, chain ring and frame (chain stay).
The Maguras work well, and they give the build an overall look I prefer.
