cant you do that on a normal engine by taking off the magneto?

That's a nifty idea. And you get to tighten up whatever that bevel gear on the end of the crank is called, every time you start it.

edit: wait no, that gear turns counterclockwise, no?

Not a gimmick, it's a sprag clutch on the little adaptor. Only company I know that offers that.

Yes, but they modified the shaft with left hand threads. Could be useful for bench starting.
