Tire Size for Board Track Racer

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me an appropriate tire size to use with a drop loop board track racer replica? I'm planning on custom fabricating the frame with 4130 steel tubing and using a gc160 engine so I'm planning on it being relatively heavy. I didn't know if it should go with a 26in with thinner tires or a 24 in with rather thick tires. I'm somewhat concerned with proportions but safety is paramount. I put a 2 stroke on my hybrid bike and kept the stock tires and wheels but I figured there's a lot less power and weight with that.

I suggest 26" with some thicker tires. Board track racers had some wide tires

Does the 23 refer to the o.d. of the tyre? Knock 4.5" off it for a true rim size = 18.5. I'd seriously go to a breakers and get a pair of 21" steel rims from a trail 125 and then work on what tyre section goes with them. The proportions are going to revolve around big skinny wheels. That's my...

622 or 584 rims are going to be the closest in size if you use bike rims. Motorcycle rims are always an option. I've heard 22 inch rims are about 26 inches once the tires are on.

It depends on the frame. I've seen board track replicas pull off the look with some 2.125" wide tires.

BTR tire of the 20s had 28"x 3" tires on 22" rims - Different measurements than a Bicycle wheel

A 26" x 3" tire on 26" bicycle rim is only slightly shorter in height than the BTR

Yes a 26" x 3" bicycle tire will be a close BTR replica tire
