Valve Adjustment

I believe that's for a real Grom, Ill try it if I cant get .003 and .004 to quiet down....How loud should the tappets be????

Real Grome - Clone Grome, whatever
There is no advantage by setting the valve lash @ In.003 EX .004
People are just trying to get more valve lift, but a couple thousands of an inch isn't gonna make a difference and only have you adjust the valve lash more often

You have to understand that thermal expansion will be .002" on the exhaust and .001" on the intake - lash gets smaller
So with thermal expansion IN .003" will become .002" and EX .004" will become .002"
BTW The minimum valve lash is .002"

Over time the lash will get smaller because of wear, the valves are pounding on the valve seats, the seat's get lower and the vales wear causing the vale lash to get smaller Eventually needing a valve lash adjustment
If you set the valve lash at the minimum to begin with your just gonna have to adjust the lash more often

If the valve lash gets bigger over time then ya got different problems such as cam lobe or lifter wear maybe the bottom of the valve stem mushroomed

Honda Grom factory lash specs are .10mm intake and .17mm exhaust. plus or minus .02mm.

Most clones run tighter specs because of the materials used. In the case of my CG250 engine in my Hawk, it has aluminum pushrods, so the valve lash doesn't change much due to thermal expansion, and mainly is set to account for valve expansion. My CG250 lash specs are .07mm intake, plus or minus .02mm for both valves. I personally run the intake on the tight side at .05mm and leave the exhaust at .07mm.

Just so you know, your engine will always be "tappy" as that is just the nature of a solid valvetrain. Even the Groms are a bit clattery when set right. Putting in a cam with more lift or duration is going to enhance that noise by making those tappets hit just a bit harder from the increased opening/closing velocity.

Thanks for the input everyone, its just odd hearing the tappets while riding around. as I could never hear them before cam swap.
