Vespa 150 LX- New Project (Before Vintage Whizzer start)

I just think it would be fun.
The Kent engine was the heart of the Lotus 7 kit car sold in the UK and it is is still in production today as the Caterham 7. They now use a Mazda DOHC out of the Miata.

I'm not made of money, but if I was resurrecting a 1960's British sports car, the Kent drive train and a 5 speed would be my choice, just because there are so many of them in junkyards. Even the old Chevy Chevette 1.6 L would be a better choice than the little Ford flatty V8. Interfacing the V8 with a bell housing of the old MG 4 pot will be fun and dealing with the excessive height of a Ford V8 under the low hood of your sports car conversion. Not on my bingo card for least likely to succeed engine to car swaps.

I’m gonna build one of those 7’s someday.

So seller responded..” only was in 1 foot of Hurricane Ian flood” did not get in air box or exhaust …. Not in engine” he said Dealer wanted $1500 and no guarantee it woud run… I dont think they did much to verify what happened..no surprise the bottom end is water tight… made to drive through rain and water… but anything near the top end goes downhill… much of the sea water was wind driven in the storm as well. I will be back in town Monday and try and fire it ag… then engine off

He said i never asked…. Should have disclosed it… “ needs new batteries and some carb work”. Yea right…
Here is another picture in port
All you can do is wire wheel those valves and hope nothing is too pitted and give them a valve grind with some compound.

Where's that groups plugin now?
Not readily apparent or visible to me either...lol...lol.

I asked @Anton that very same question yesterday after I looked and couldn't find anything fitting that description...lol...lol.

I PM'd him already about that and waiting for an answer, hopefully he can put the answer here as well.

back in town and second carb rebuild completed. New jets, New bowl, New intake and exhaust bellows. Used a bit of fuel in the plug hole (considering how long it takes to put the plug back in not sure this even matters) put starting fluid into intake.

No start.

Found out from seller that it was in Hurricane Ian flood: "only one foot of water" " Did not get in transmission or exhaust " Well No kidding. those parts are made to get wet everytime you ride. He insisted no water in engine, but if you look at my pictures of intake and boroscope, it shows heavy rust on the bottom of the intake valve.

It seems to have decent compression... pulls on the vacuum lines and the exhaust pushes air.

Have not put the compression gauge on yet.

What is the expected compression reading for this 2009 Leader 2V engine?

Looks like I am close to a top end rebuild at this point
