Walmart Jackshaft Kit

ps attached a pic of my chinezium shift kit build - such poor quality I had to buy many replacement parts from SBP's. The crank arms that came with it for example had the freewheel thread completely crooked and were unusable!
The Chinesium has improved, their new motto is "Now with some metal"...lol...lol...lol.

Ah, that makes sense - I only weigh 130 pounds, but I have broken a chain trying to pedal a three speed up a steep hill (no motor). My eight shift kit bikes all have shimano HG chains, sram derailleurs and sram left side five speed shifters. I was very sad when SBP's closed!

The Shimano Hg71 chain was designed for electric mid-drive systems. Here's a couple of other good chains Sram 890 and KMC X99. The biggest chain stresser is cross-chaining. With my color coded shifting system cross-chaining is eliminated. This is why having 3 chainrings is better than one. The only time I change a chainring is when in either rear sprockets (3) or (5).

I have 2 of the HD freewheels from SBP and I bought a number of the bearings for them as well. I ended up with my second one and the bearings once they announced they were closing, but the first one I had on a bike years ago and I decided to service it. The HD freewheel has larger pawls and teeth with fewer teeth to hold up to the power better, but he bearing in the HD kit is also a stronger/beefier unit as well.

It's one of those deals where for most people who just do this or fun as a hobby a normal freewheel in regular flat ground riding it really isn't needed. Higher power builds, heavy riders, and hills like Jerry mentioned is where it makes a difference. It's also not a matter of the normal freewheels simply exploding immediately, but accelerated degradation over time that leads to eventual catastrophic failure.

The UHD freewheel was actually designed more for DIY electric bike conversions since electric motors make all of their torque immediately and even the normal HD freewheel can't hold up to peak torque at 1 RPM, especially moving any sort of weight. That type of high torque low speed load is a real killer of driveline components even in ICE powered vehicles. This is why the drivelines on diesel engine trucks are often way way more stout than gas engines even when they make similar HP.

Rear wheel freewheel sprocket

Kickstarting my Whizzer is hard on the Freewheel
Worksman Cycles rear wheel came with a Taiwan Freewheel
I went thru 3 Taiwan freewheels in under 2 years, I knew I needed better a quality freewheel

I paid $63 seventeen years ago for a White Industries Freewheel and I'm glad I did
17 years and an estimated 37K miles later, the WI freewheel is still working like new
WI Highly Recommended

I looked up White Industries 22t Freewheel - Today $123

WI History
Remember Shawn White, skateboarder and BMX stunt rider
He needed a stronger freewheel and had a strong freewheel designed for himself
He proved to the world the WI freewheel could stand up to the abuse he put on it, and today millions of freewheels have been sold

Wow, my Staton Inc triple chainring shift kit has become even more rare. White Industries quit making the Trials freewheel last year. I have two of them in my shift kit. What they deemed as unnecessary is fine for a pedal only bicycle but very beneficial for a motorized bicycle.

Yikes!
Has anyone tried the one from Grubee?
Grubee pissed me off. I live in a bad neighborhood so I ordered a part and had it shipped to a friend, shipped under the friend's name. Then like a half an hour later, I realized it wasn't what I was looking for and cancelled the order. They said that I wasn't the person that ordered it. I exclaimed it was purchased under my name and the credit card was in my name and I wanted the order cancelled. They said no. Now I got this $250 part that I will never use and I will never be a Grubee customer again.

That's when you dispute the charge with your CC company.

Ask if you can return it
They'll probably charge you 20% restocking fee, maybe not?
You'll have to pay return shipping

Or is it all sales final

Better yet, call them back and tell them you have just told your card company to cancel payment to him since he won't except the fact from you that you made the initital order and not the other person you were having it delivered to because of the bad neighbourhood...lol...lol.

That would mean that if the payment is indeed cancelled you are correct and Grubee is incorrect as to who made that order to begin with and that he needs to listen to his customers much better than he is doing...lol...lol.
