...is the best way to motorize this baby? I like the idea of a driven tire and am curious as to the pro's and con's of this method versus the chain driven ones. Serial number appears to be P489531, found on the frame near the rear hub.

Please accept my apologies in advance if this is too trite or naive.

Thanks, himmelberg

not sure what it is..... I know it's not Schwinn.
post your question & pic here..... http://www.motoredbikes.com/showthread.php?t=17155 ...to ask the experts. someone will know!! the star pattern in the sprocket should tell us something.

I can see your fork is really, really bent. not a problem....easy to replace.
looks to be a good platform to build from.

as for how to motor this .... I, for one, like the simplicity of friction drive.
it has it's drawbacks.... wet weather...etc.

that picture reminded me of a jack type of fork straightener we used at the
bicycle shop years ago
went from fork to crank housing
took about two minutes to straighten at the most
that was easy money

cool looking old bicycle -- get it up soon and

ride that thing

And this question is not trite or naive. It's exactly the sort of thing that we all like to look at and discuss. Someone is very likely to know what it is.

I'd vote for a two stroke, chain drive.
