When is the best time to port?

I recently bought a 2 stroke engine and it's on its way. When is the best time to port it for the longevity of the engine? Before break in? During break in? After break in? My previous bike practically blew up after a couple of months so this time I want to make sure it lasts a long time.

I always port when there is going to be bad weather.......oh wait, you're talking about engines.

Port it when the cylinder is new, keep everything clean, even look in the case for chunks of debris and rinse it out, and break it in slowly.

The best time to port is after you buy a second cylinder to do the porting with.
