I got so tired of that flimsy tab that they provide to go in that rear fender slot to help keep the rear fender centered.

Mine broke, I repaired it. Then it broke again (cheap metal). What would happen is 1) It would sound like I had junk in the trunk. 2) It would rub against the chain, making more noise and damage.

Now, I know my garage and bike are dirty.....I just did this quick this morning to get it out of the way, and I want to share every fix and upgrade I do - hoping that it might help someone.

So, after a conversation with Quenton, the only thing to do is fabricate/make your own tab to fix this situation back there.

Here we go....Step 1:

Remove that old piece of junk tab:

There we go....I can hear my Whizzer thanking me already:

Now, I used a scrap piece of 16gauge steel, measured, pounded flat the old one, traced it, and cut it out (sort of) with the makita:

I then put it on the bench grinder to clean it up and shape it to the old factory look:

Punch it for the drill using a punch and hammer:

Drill it!

Clean it up again on the bench grinder and paint it!

There AHHHHHHHH much better and the rear fender feels SOLID!

Let me know if you need help, and I can help in anyway I can. This literally took a few minutes is all, and is a HUGE improvement over that old tab.

Take care guys, and happy cruisen!

Since this is a common problem with Whizzer rear fenders, I think this thread should be made a sticky. It's well written with great photo documentation, and I'm sure I'll be referring to this when my rear fender tab breaks.

No need to go to all the trouble.

I bought a pack of L-brackets from the hardware store.. holes were spot-on already. All I had to do was drill-out the two rivets from the fender, secure the L-bracket to the fender with bolts and nuts with the nylon threading to hold them (also used blue loctite), and mounted it to the frame. This thing will Not move now, and the bracket is quite thick - no more bending or breakage. Cost me $3 for the pack, and time removing the rear wheel, drilling rivets out, etc. It was time well spent.

Hey everyone. My rear fender tab bit the dust today at 425 miles. I have the very nice hardware from Theozon. Is it installed exactly as pictured, right in front of the brace where it is screwed into the frame? I am guessing that is how people are installing it. But just wanted to check. -- rob

Hi Rob
That's the way to do it. You should not have any more issues with the fender tab. A drop of blue Loctite on the threads will not hurt either. THEOZON made a very nice repair kit. I had to repair mine before THEOZON made his parts available but my repair is very similar and very solid. Sorry I don't have any pictures .
