Would you believe I'm planning my next build? (4 Stroke Content)

That plate is pretty cool. Any idea how wide they are? I'd much rather have that than a side pull.

Haven't ordered it yet. If/when I do, I'll get dimensions. I have to get you guys some pictures of my new springers. They need cleaned up a bit but they're going to look goooooooooooooooooooooooooood.

Ya please get a pick of that fork. I'd love to see it.

I need to look for an older one, the support bars on mine seem real flimsy.

Your V-Brakes

I didn't know you could get a V-brake mount. It looks good & solid. For the rear seat stays you might need to see a specialist metal worker. Maybe you could braze them on as well as clamping them by whatever method they suggest. I can't wait to get a glimse of your springer fork with the v-brakes fitted. Wonder can you run cables to them without any hassle.

Update on my braking situation.

Now I have springers with v bosses on the front, and I want to do a v-brake on the back as well. I found a mounting plate that adds the studs on the back, I could mount it on the bar (I guess they call them seat stays?). Well, that spans the two stays doesn't look welded in place, it looks like it's lugged or pinned or something. So my plan is to get the frame blasted, then maybe use the MIG welder to add a little strength to that particular area, and then use this plate. My question is...are the stays going to be strong enough to support the brake?

I'll try to get a picture of the back soon.

Here's the plate:

I think they can be welded if I remember what they look like correctly. I'll drop the power on the mig and get some nice clean welds on it for some added strength.

The springer is going to need a bit of a cleanup. Somebody decided to do a nice krylon chrome job on the front of the fork, and now it's pitted and chipping. The back still has clean chrome on it. So I'm going to paint the front to match my frame. In order to make the cables clean I'm going to make sure they're shortened and out of the way.

Today Taylor, myself, and our friend Nick (affectionately nicknamed Yak) mock fabricated a tank. It actually came out much better than expected. We used some round stock and build a skeleton to mount the panels on. Even though we were totally eyeballing all the measurements, it came out pretty dang good. The finished tank is going to have a square stock skeleton wrapped in something like 18 gauge steel. We figure it'll be pretty much indestructible, and we calculate it'll probably hold more than a regular half gallon tank to boot.

I've also been dreaming up some dashboard ideas. Most notably a wooden dash that houses an analog speedometer/odometer, the keyed killswitch, and if I can fenangle it, a fuel gauge. Maybe some other cool accessories (backlight for the gauges, etc. Post any ideas you have). The dash would fit over the center bar, and line up flush with the tank on the sides. It'd be a box that would slant down slightly on the lid, and the lid would overhang the box in the front and round a bit. The lid would be hinged and be lockable. It would then be stained a beautiful medium brown and covered with semigloss spar varnish would make it 100 percent weatherproof. I would then have a matching brown hairpin saddle (drools).

Sorry, more thinking out loud.

Your project

Can we see some pics of where you are at now? Did the springer forks come good? What was the welding like? I really am interested in how it is coming on.
Cheers,
John

2. Frame/Bike/Suspension. I think I found one right here. It's the right style, looks nice, has springer forks. Would a 4 stroke fit on this frame and would it be strong enough?

It's a solid steel frame. I'd probably get the red or black one.

I'm a bit late responding Sheik but that Micargi cruiser doesn't look well enough made to take a 4-stroke. They are heavy beasts and they will go fast. The frame is very flimsy looking I'd need to really look it over to be sure but neither the frame nor the forks look good enough for any motor. If the frame is as strong as the Electra cruiser which it looks like it's copied from then it would be OK. Has it got fittings for v-brakes cos a coaster hub would be difficult to accommodate.
