Yamaha GT80G Idling and Running Issues

We couldn't get back to trying to solve this guy's carb problems?
It's a good point, but we kinda already did that by suggesting that he take it apart and cleaning it out. replies #3,4,8. Things went a little sideways as they often do, but all in all I think he was initially given sound advice. 10 days have passed since and no further inquiry into the problem has arisen so hopefully the advice given was adequate. If not, and we didn't scary him off with our nonsense he'll be back.

Some very clear and to-the-point suggestions had already been made concerning the man's motorcycle problems with a carburetor that had been sitting for many years, so what more can be done, short of driving over to the man's house and personally gathering around his Yamaha and physically working on his motorcycle with tools, chemical solvents and expert knowledge, up close and personal? eh?

If I'm not mistaken that carburetor on the GT80 has an enrichment circuit Not really a choke. An it adds a variable to the "soaking the carb clean it of old varnish" routine.

The enrichment circuit usually comprised of a additional fuel metering jet and additional plumbing that bypasses the throttle piston with it's own smaller brass piston/rubberseal. These should always be inspected to see if there's some crap, varnish or debris blocking or sticking the start circuit piston open, and that the rubber seal and the seat it works against at it's end is also intact and not damaged. Although this is sounding a lot more like the idle circuit and possible the main jet orifice and emulsion tube is the likely culprit.

These carbs aren't as simple as the NT carb on most stock HT engines.
