I'm pretty much a noob still to motorized bicycles... Im about to go re-do my whole bike because I know its not safe right now lol. But ever since I've got it working, the thing has never idled. The only way I can keep the engine going is if im pedaling. Can somebody help me troubleshoot this problem? When my bike is 100% functional and 99% reliable, I will be a happpppy camper ;).

On the side of the carb you have a idle screw. (screw with a spring).. Screw the screw all the way in then turn it out 3 1/2 turns..

This may not be a idle problem, so make sure you have your choke down so your engine can get air. If it is closed off the engine will idle funny and then cut out.

when you give it throttle does it bog down?
Does the engine cut off when you hold in the clutch?
What type of carb do you have?

I will try the 3 1/2 turn thing tomorrow, but If im riding and I hold in the clutch, yes it cuts off the engine. The throttle hasnt gotten stuck since I bought a new unchafed cable, and I have the regular stock carb that comes with zminglu's kits on Ebay.

Also, If im riding and close the choke, the engine will stop completely

do the 3 1/2 turn of the idle screw and also check the carby, carby inlet for airleaks. airleaks can also cause it to cut out.. But i am pretty sure the idle screw (3 1/2 out) will work.

Take off the air filter & be sure that the slide goes to the top when you twist the grip. Take out the spark plug and make sure there's enough compression to blow your finger off the plug hole when you turn the engine. Look for leaking around the head gasket. Take of the muffler and be sure you can blow through it as easily as if it were a straight piece on pipe.

my bike is now idling, but when i hold let go of the clutch to go, the bike goes by itself and wil just keep accelerating. The throttle still works but I feel like half of the throttle is already being pulled.

Sounds a bit like your clutch is dragging and slowing the engine while standing still, then going normally when releasing the clutch - does the bike try to move while you hold the clutch in?

There is a LOT of very good info here about adjusting the clutch. Read some of it and then start by making the cable right before checking the star-nut (or flower-nut) that is used to adjust the pressure plate.

If those two don't fix it, then even more reading here will help.

can you take a photo of your carb, also where the throttle cable goes into it?

also a photo of your clutch arm where it connects to the cable?
