Looking for a bike rack for my car.

I was think of something like this hitch mount cargo carrier since I have a scooter and an MB. Tie down straps could hold the bike steady.

I have a trunk mount bike carrier that I use for regular bikes. Every car I've ever used it on has eventually been scratched badly. The bikes shift around as you bounce down the road and usually the pedals get to the paint.

Tie down straps alone won't be enough, you need rails on the platform to fasten the wheels to as well, otherwise the wheels will shift and bounce causing the bike to fall over.
Another alternative is to have a couple of vertical bars welded to the two back corners so that you have something to fasten the top of the bikes to. (perhaps with bungees).

Try Harbor Freight. They have adapters and inexpensive 1 1/4" bike carriers. I will be ordering the hitch for my car soon. It will hold my bike with a GEBE on it and my wife's also.
