Howzit Everyone,
I would like to share with ya all how to make a new compression release cable for around $4
If you've ever had a compression release cable brake. I bet the Z Dog Leg snapped off.
That's because every time ya remove the compression release cover your forced to put a nasty bend in the cable right by the Z Dog Leg.
Now your forced to order a new compression release cable and pay over $20
A new Z Dog Leg is available on line or at a lawnmower repair shop for $2 and is reusable.
A package of 10 barrel end brake cables each 6' long is available on line for $10
A 50' roll of cable housing is available on line for $15
A 100 piece box of metal cable ends is $5
Now you'll have a lot of cables to do your brakes and you'll be able to make a new compression release cable at a moments notice.
The little hole in the compression release lever arm needs to be drilled slightly larger to accept the new Z Dog Leg.
If the cable housing is in good condition just slide in a new cable put the new Z Dog Leg on. Cut the cable to length and your done.
If a new cable housing is needed you'll have to reuse the adjustment barrel screw off the old cable.
It's easy just drill out the old cable housing and metal cable end. Then slide in the new metal cable end and housing.
Here's some pictures. Should explain everything.
I suggest to have good cable alignment.
I suggest to oil the new cable with 30w or 40w oil before installing.
I also suggest to use lineman side cutters to cut the cable housing. Then use a scratch awe to straighten out the cable housing end.
A special cable housing metal end crimping tool is not required. Just slide the new cable housing into the new metal cable end.
I hope this info will help someone
