Hi, my name is Marc. Newbe to the site. Been wanting to build a bike for awhile. Was looking at mopeds, but I think a motorized bike would be alot cooler. I was planning on using a lawn mower engine (I like old school mini bikes too) Need some avise on a clutch system, like a moped. So you can pedal, than engage the clutch to start the engine. Any advise? Thanks.

Hi Marc, welcome to the site.

Yes, you can make a pedal started Briggs and Stratton type drive
    with a centrifugal clutch.
Horizontal motors are recommended over vertical lawn mower types.

msrfan is the local Orange County expert on such builds. Come on out
to Grange Motor Circuit this Sat June 2nd to meet him and see 5 or more
similar motorized bikes along with just about every custom bike you could

here is a pic of one of msrfan's bikes that is now used for racing.

Is there a local hang out everyone meets at? Somewhere in the IE. My buddy took some pictures of some motorized bikes at a donut shop I think in the OC, where thay have a car show on Sat. mornings. I was very inspired!

We would all love to have a cool, custom flathead powered bike like MotorBicycleRacing. However, if this is your first build, I would buy a complete motor kit. You will be on the road sooner, and for less money.
