Bicycle Extreme Visibility and Safety Modifications

I just finished mounting a 55 watt driving light and 2 flashing red lights to my bike I also use an led head lamp and flashing rear lamp. That's right 3 flashing red tail lights hopefully they will see me and the 2 on the front help me see a lot better I might add a 55 watt flood light to the front as well. All of this is powered by 2 12 volt 12amp hr scooter batteries and all of it was free

WOW!!! Can't beat free!

DO those batteries seem rather heavy for the bike? I'm sure you get plenty of light for a while with those batteries!

It looks like if someone gets too close, you can flash your brights!

Do you have a horn? Those batteries would make a perfect match.

It sounds like you'll have a really good set-up.

You might want to experiment a bit with those ground effects; I have found in the past that too many lights in unusual places has seemed to confuse some drivers. I think maybe they're just not certain what they are seeing. Can you guess the result? They swerve at you. (I suppose I shouldn't word that like a joke. It's a terribly serious matter.)

On my motor bike I run two 55 watters up front. Works very, very well. Everyone takes me seriously. One automotive rear light plus one of those flashing LEDs for pedal bikes.

On my pedal bike I run double LED lights front and rear. White up front, red in the back. Two of each because it's nice to have more light and I'll have at least one if batteries die when riding.

THanks, I'll keep that in mind when making the running lights. What kind of battery runs your double 55's?

The batteries aren't that heavy probably around 12-15 lbs. total for both batteries. I don't even notice they are there I have one mounted on each side of my bike in the baskets. I don't have a way to "flash my brights" the headlight is always on. Horn, why yes I have a horn I just don't have it mounted and hooked up yet. I still haven't finished my motor transfer yet :( but, that will be coming soon. :)

Rkbonds, how's that horn going? It can really save your butt!!!

Today, I'm SO glad I used my car horn! I saw a lady stopping from a residential side-street, about to make a left on to the small 30mph road I was riding on, and she looked right at me, and then started to move forward anyway, then I held the horn button down, and she jammed on her brakes before the nose of her car made it into the road! HAHAHA

I just don't get these tards......If a motorcycle or moped was going down the road, in the center of the lane like normal, like I was on my bike doing the 30mph speed limit, would they just pull out in front of them like that? IMO they probably would, so I'm glad I don't ride a motorcycle, as the bike is slower, and lighter, and easier to maneuver in case of emergency.

I usually give a few short horn-taps when I see cars coming from a side street anyway to make their impatient asses wait the extra 5 seconds or less that it takes me to ride by. (most of the impatient ones that pull out, usually go slow once they do, so I know they are in no rush, they are just selfish and ignorant)

I'm about to print a sticker for the back, that says, Look Twice, BICYCLES are everywhere, you may safe a life!

Znsane, I have to agree that drivers reactions to a 100+db horn blasting them from a bike is great. Something every MBer should have.

I haven't gotten around to mounting my horn yet, I've been too busy fine tuning my new push trailer. It is however next on the list.

If you've already got a 12v system on your bike for lights it's as simple as a series loop with a horn and push button. I love it!

ive got a airzound air horn about 120 decibels scares the s*** out of cagers when they cut me of. mabey thell think twice next time they see a bike. I want to get a old harley/chopper style headlight assy with 2 driving lights and I main headlight in the middle. and a light at the back

These orange pennants only run $5-8, (the pix are from a the ride back from the bikeshop, only one was for the recumbent, the other for a trike).

If you buy one, you can do some fancy rigging. Make a mount that goes farther back behind the rear tire, to keep it out of the way while swinging your leg over a regular bike.

I definitely use them on slower moving tricycles.

If you buy one that has a two piece mast, glue the two parts together.

Cut a few inches off the bottom so it fits into your storage area and doesn't hit too many low hanging branches.
