Broken exhaust, can it be fixed?

Hold the first nut with a wrench then crank the 2nd nut down on it,be careful not to strip out the cylinder holes.

I still think some quality allen head screws and lock washers would be better.
 
Ok I'm confused. If I put one nut on and tighten it, then put another on and tighten it, aren't the two tight against each other?
What did I do wrong here?
Put a wrench on one to hold it in place and a socket on the other and start squeeze tightening them against each other to lock them in place against each other.
 
EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just about had this good and tight when the bolt snapped clean off.

So guess I need to buy that other muffler, the flex one. might not until spring as my riding season is just about over anyway.

Oh well.
