Felt Like A Good Time To Swap Engines

Here's my latest incarnation. Swapped the Subaru Robin EH035 engine for the 97cc Lifan 2.5 HP engine on the downhill MTB. It runs out strong & has more power everywhere. Too bad its over the cc & hp limit of State MB laws.
As long as I keep it under 30 & pedal along in high gear, I might fly under the radar.
Anybody know of a good looking readily available 49cc replacement sticker?

lowracer, your rear mount is so CLEAN! Looks much better than aftermarket front mounts.:geek:

In one picture, you doubled up the rear support struts on the engine side, with no supoort on the right rear.

What's your theory on that?

5-7Heaven,
Thanks!
This rack is version 3.
I've cut, drilled, & bolted together enough metal now to the point that I'm tired of it...lol
I'll finally leave well enough alone (unless I ever get a cheap welder).
I just got back from a ride on 'The Beast' & just love this 98cc Lifan.
The bike has so much get up & go it feels like the missing link bridging bicycle & motorcycle.
I would rather do one engine than two.
I'd sure like to see more builds using this Lifan 152F 98cc engine.
Geared correctly on the right machine its a blast to ride & super reliable.
They are $109 in black @ Home Depot (online)

I might want to tinker with that Lifan engine one day. :giggle:

Likewise, I'm hesitant to run front and rear drive again. When I did that, it was a natural progression in the search of more power. First, the Subaru 1.6hp. Then a 2.2hp Mitsubishi w/pipes. Then the 4.2hp GP460 engine and the 2.8hp Tanaka 47R.

I'll probably do a twin-engined rear Staton chain drive with 460 engines. Of course they're powerful, but are VERY quiet with SBP expansion pipes.

I've used 4-liter Happy Time fuel tanks in all my builds. JMO, they're the perfect reservoirs and hold more than enough fuel to feed the hungriest engines.

I see that you have belt drive on the Lifan. How did you secure the drive pulley onto the front rim?

What size is the drive pulley and what is the gear ratio?

5-7Heaven,
The drive pulley is another same size bike rim with the spokes all removed. I fastened it to the spoked wheel 1st by using JB Weld, then 4 pop rivets, then 4 holes drilled straight thru both sandwiched rims below the tube channel & bolted together with thin stainless steel bolts & nylock nuts.
My final drive ratio is 9:1 (9 clutch drum turns per 1 wheel turn)
I've posted before on how to make the pulley sheave (search my threads)
I've read alot about how so many peoples builds are constantly needing attention & things just dont run reliably.
This Lifan build is super reliable, has gobs of torque & best of all requires no mixing of gas/oil (4 stroker).
Give it a whirl...

howdy low,
just came across this thread researching the lifan 98. WOW! 'The Beast',
subtle understatement, why not the 'Mastodon' or 'Cycledellic'? Bin wondering
how I might attach a full size rim for a sheave. The Lifan looks like a perfect
candidate for this triple pulley i've got. I'm thinkin A lever action belt
tensioner that would let me switch ratios. Given the torque and rpm range
of the Lifan, I should be able to hit 40 on flat hwy with the small, cruise
25 at mid range, and climb like a goat with the big pulley. Guess I gotta
buy one.:D

Lovely aeroplane Ludwig,
Did it take a rawther long time to build or
did you 'ave 'elp?:devilish:

Rawly,
I posted this awhile ago.

The Lifan is a wonderful, reliable engine. The clutch was the weak link in my setup (I had a max torque modified using cartridge bearings). I remember breaking 50 mph on 'The Beast'...
Ludwig,
My ancestors came from Russia, Romania, Poland, Austria...
If u go back far enough, we are all related...lol
